The village of Bhaltos is situated 33 miles from Stornoway (where ferries from Ullapool arrive) and 65 miles from Tarbert (ferries from Skye). See Calmac for ferry details and booking options. Advance booking is essential in holiday periods and advisable at all times.
Stornoway Airport is served by flights seven days a week, to and from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Aberdeen. Car hire is available at the airport or in Stornoway and taxis and buses cover the short journey into town.
From Stornoway, follow signs for Tarbert and take the A859 south out of town for about 6 miles. On reaching Leurbost junction (just past the filling station), turn right onto onto the A858 for Callanish and the West, following the road to Garynahine (Gearraidh na h-Aibhne). Turn left onto the B8011, heading for Uig. After passing through the village of Carishader (Coirisiadar), at the foot of the hill at Miaviag take the right turn to the Bhaltos peninsula. Follow the loop road clockwise, passing through Cliobh and at the top of the hill take the left fork into Bhaltos. As you come into the village, down the hill and pass the white B&B on the left, look for a right turn (opposite a square brown house) with a low vertical flagstone showing the location of several houses, including 21. Keep to the right as you head up the steep hill and 21 is the white house beside the bend in the road near the top of the hill.
From Harris, follow the A859 north towards Stornoway as far as the Leurbost junction and turn left towards the west, proceeding as above.
